Slide 1 - Micro Jig Presents: Turning your MJ Splitter into a Dado TamerDisplayed is a cut-down Thin Kerf MJ Splitter used as a “dado tamer”. Ensure safety and greatly reduce the chance of kickback during dado cutting operations with this innovative use for the MJ Splitter. The MJ Splitter dado tamer technique works great with a stack dado sets that stack away from the fence on most right-tilt table saws or a single saw blade (as shown). The dado tamer is perfect for ripping with the 1/8” Leg accessory for the GRR-Ripper.
Note: A full size MJ Splitter is not to be used with the 1/8” Leg. Only use a dado tamer modified splitter when using the 1/8” Leg.
-
Slide 2To turn an existing MJ Splitter into a dado tamer, begin by drawing a straight line across the Splitter at the desired height.
-
Slide 3Use diagonal nose pliers or a similar cutting tool to cut along the line drawn.
-
Slide 4Place the dado tamer into the pre-drilled MJ Splitter holes. See MJ Splitter Installation Manual for instructions to drill and align the holes.
-
Slide 5Make sure the dado tamer is fully inserted into the MJ Splitter holes and secure.
-
Slide 6Displayed is the set-up for a “diamond” cross cut of thin 1/8” strips. The 1/8” strips were made with the GRR-Ripper and the 1/8” Leg accessory. The strips are held together by masking tape.
-
Slide 7IMPORTANT: Do not attempt this cut without a GRR-Ripper.
The “diamond” crosscut will be performed by a GRR-Ripper with the 1/8” Leg accessory.
-
Slide 8Make sure the blade is raised to the appropriate height to cut the wood and to pass through the tunnel of the 1/8” Leg safely.
Note: The 1/8” Leg has ½” clearance for the saw blade.
-
-
Slide 10The dado tamer performs flawlessly by dividing the keeper pieces and the off-cut pieces. The dado tamer’s low profile allows for the 1/8” Leg tunnel to pass through uninterrupted.
-
Slide 11Here is a close up shot of the finished “diamond” cross cut. Notice the results are clean diamond cutouts made from 1/8” strips of wood. The precision of the GRR-Ripper coupled with the safety of the dado tamer makes this cut accurate and easy.
-
Slide 12To remove the dado tamer from the zero-clearance insert (ZCI), use another MJ Splitter to push the dado tamer out from the under-side of the ZCI .
