Slide 1 - Set the blade height. Here is a simple and effective way to find out which MJ Splitter is right for your saw blade using a 1/8" drill bit.
-
Slide 2Use a small scrap piece of 3/4" plywood or MDF. Set the saw blade height to about 3/8".
-
Slide 3 - Cut a groove with one single pass. This example shows cutting with a Thin Kerf saw blade. Note: A trimmed down Thin Kerf Yellow MJ Splitter is used as a "Dado Tamer".
-
Slide 4 (Optional)If you own another saw blade that you think that is 1/8" kerf, set it up to make a second groove cut.
-
-
Slide 6Two different width grooves have been created with two saw blades of different thicknesses.
-
Slide 7 - Place the 1/8" drill bits into the grooves. When the 1/8" drill bit drops all the way to the bottom indicates the groove (kerf) is at least 1/8" wide, select the Blue or the Green MJ Splitter.
When the 1/8" drill bit hangs over the tops edges indicates the groove (kerf) is less than 1/8", select the Yellow or Orange MJ Splitter.
If you already have the MJ Splitter, please use the MJ Splitter for the test. The MJ Splitter should slide freely in the groove without binding.
