MATCHFIT Setup Gauge
Speed and precision

Quickly set up your Dado Stop with pinpoint accuracy.

Record your blade’s actual kerf (including runout) by trimming it into the Setup Gauge. This serves as a template to set up your Dado Stop for a fast, precise dado cut. Best of all—there's no dado blade required.

Henry Wang, Microjig Founder

Every blade and saw combination cuts its own unique kerf usually not visible to the naked eye. When it comes to joinery, however, even a few thousands of an inch can make all the difference. The Setup Gauge was designed to solve that very problem. It keeps a physical record of the unique kerf cut by a blade on a specific saw, making quick work of setting up the Dado Stop.

How it works.

MATCHFIT Setup Gauge

Your fastest dados ever.

  • Blade kerf template for precise Dado Stop setup.
  • Record blade/saw combination for future reference.
  • 11/32” blade height gauge for cutting relief grooves on table saw.
  • 3/8” depth gauge for setting dovetail router bit cutting depth.

Setup dados in a fraction of the time.

MATCHFIT Setup Gauge
Step 1

Cut a scrap piece of MDF to template on side of your kerf.
Without moving the fence, clamp the Setup Gauge to a crosscut sled, contacting the cut piece.

MATCHFIT Setup Gauge
Step 2

Set blade height to the center of the notch.
Remove MDF piece and push Setup Gauge through the cut.

MATCHFIT Setup Gauge
Step 3

The material trimmed out is an exact replica of the blade’s kerf, including runout.  The resulting gap is used to account for the kerf when setting Leg 2 of the Dado Stop.

Table Saws

The GRR-RIPPER was built for the table saw. It acts as a moving blade guard, shielding your hands from the saw blade through the entire cut. Right out of the box, the GRR-RIPPER can cut stock down to ¼” x ¼”. Because it provides 3 directions of control, your cuts will be cleaner and more precise.

MATCHFIT Setup Gauge

Router Tables

The GRR-RIPPER provides incredible command over your workpiece on the router table. Whether you’re using the fence or freehand routing, its powerful grip controls stock and protects your hands from dangerous spinning bits.

MATCHFIT Setup Gauge

Jointers

The GRR-RIPPER’s proprietary Green GRR-RIP material provides all the traction you need to properly flatten stock on the jointer. Because of its powerful grip, you can feed material over the cutter head without having to apply too much downward pressure.  The GRR-RIPPER makes proper face-jointing technique easy, and safe.

Band Saws

The GRR-RIPPER's legs and main body maintain a constant 90 degree angle. It can be used on its side which is ideal for resawing on bandsaws. The GRR-RIPPER glides along the table top and applies even pressure against the fence with your hands clear of the blade. Even pressure means less blade drift, resulting in smoother cuts.

Got questions?

How are these clamps different from other F-style clamps?

They’re track clamps. The head of the MATCHFIT Dovetail Clamps are forged into a dovetail shape, compatible with any standard ½” 14-degree dovetail router bit. It moves through the track created by a router bit instead of an expensive metal t-track.

Can’t I just do the same thing with dog holes?

Not really.  Dog holes only allow clamps to go through the material with the head sticking out of the bottom.  Dog holes confine clamps to fixed locations, which aren’t always where you need them.  Dovetail Clamps can be positioned anywhere in a dovetail track, inside the material and out of the way.

Do I need the MATCHFIT Dovetail Router Bit in order to use Dovetail Clamps and Dovetail Hardware?

Only if you value your time.  Standard dovetail router bits cut to a sharp point at the top of the groove, which requires a decent amount of sanding after the track is routed.  Our router bit incorporates a 1/16” roundover to automatically smooth out the top of the track in a single pass.  Less time sanding means more time building.

Why dovetail as opposed to t-slot?

Then tightening anything inside of a t-slot, the pressure is applied perpendicular to the material surface, which may weaken the integrity of the track.  If a t-slot is cut into plywood, all of the force is concentrated on the small flange at the bottom, causing the plywood to delaminate. With a dovetail profile, the clamping force is distributed evenly along the entire wall of the track for an overall stronger hold.

Will MATCHFIT Dovetail Clamps and Dovetail Hardware fit into my Festool track?

The clamps will not, the hardware will, but that’s kind of missing the point.  The MATCHFIT system was designed to be compatible with a standard router bit profile, so that users wouldn’t actually need metal tracks.  However, some users have been known to file or grind about .005” off of the wide part of the clamp’s elbow and use them in their Festool track.  Our advice is to use Festool clamps with Festool tracks, and use Dovetail Clamps for everything else.

How long of a dado can I cut with the Dado Stop?

It depends on the saw.  The Dado Stop is designed to make crosscut dados using a miter gauge.  You must be able to register off of Leg 3 with your miter gauge in the miter slot, and without your workpiece in front of the blade without touching it.

How wide of a dado can I cut with the Dado Stop?

The Dado Stop can cut dados from ⅛” to ⅞” using a full kerf blade, and up to 1-13/16” using a stacked dado blade set.
