MicroJig’s router bits come in a protective hard-shell retail case that contains a secret you may not know about.

To begin with, it is a twist-lock package. To open it you want to cut the label along the seam between the clear top and the base. Just put the tip of your knife in the gap and cut all four sides.

Twist the clear top to release and open it. This reveals the second item of interest; the instructions. Unlike many other brands, every MicroJig router bit comes with instructions. These tell you about rpm speeds, how to setup the bit and even suggestions for use.

Now we come to the hidden secret; the locking base. The section at the top of the base that locks the clear cap in place also locks the bit. When closed, the bit is securely held in the base, so it does not come loose in transit or if you happen to drop the box. Turning the base unlocks it so the bit can be easily removed with less risk of fingers slipping.

It is not obvious, but when you twist the case closed, it physically locks the shank of the bit in the base so it cannot come loose inside the box. The only way to see this in action is to turn the base top to the closed position with the transparent top off.

This is just another example of how MicroJig pays attention to the details, even when they are not obvious.
